TrapStat V1.1
Written by
Chaitanya Marvici
Documentation :
How it started :
Ok here goes. This was an interesting program to write for me. It has
been written in 'C'. Which when I started on this project I didn't know
anything about. This program has just been a major learning experience for
me. But it worked. This program was originally written in ARexx by Roger
Clark. I figured that it was originally a small and easy program to
convert so I decided to give it a shot. As I got the basic part of the
program done I was continually getting input from Roger as to what I should
do to it. The original program that I wrote had a config file that you had
to modify with a text editor. I came up with a better idea, as you will
see when you run the program. There might be some bugs in the program, but
if there is I have no idea where they are or what they are. If you do
happen to find a bug or two please get ahold of me at the address at the
end of this file and let me know what the bug is so I can fix it.
The Next Generation (Version 1.1):
This version has some new and updated features. It now also supports
file types. It will tell you what type of and how many of each type of
file that was sent/recieved. It will recognize the following files :
LHA,LZH,DMS,TIC,PAK,ZOO,ARJ,ARC,WRP,REQ. It will also tell you how many of
each day pakkets that you recieve. If there are any more types of files
that you would like to see implemented in the program all you have to do is
tell me bout it. Just remember I am open for suggestions. Hopefully on
this version the speed has been improved by at least a bit.
Another neat thing that I noticed that I didn't even expect from the
program and is kinda a bonus, that is in the report Path, if you specify
PRT: instead of a drive path name it will print the file on your printer.
You can click on the cancel gadget anytime to get the program to end. If
you are processing the Trapdoor log file then clicking on the cancel gadget
while it is processing it will just stop the trapdoor log file and create a
report file for the amount of the Trapdoor log that it did read. But you
then have to click on the cancel gadget again to end the program. Hope you
enjoy the new changes. There is now a tool icon for the program. It can
be run from either the CLI or you can use the Icon.
It Keeps Getting Better (Version 1.2):
Well this is a new feature that was requested by a couple people.
Trapstat now will run in the CLI instead of using the Intuition interface.
All you have to do is use the command line arguement "quiet". Whether you
type it in upper or lower case doesn't matter. It will accept either. The
reason this was done was because some people complained that it couldn't be
run from a BBS to get info. Well now for all you complainer's, you got
your wish. :) Hope that it does exactly what you wanted it to do!
What does a roach need with Tennis shoes (Version 1.3):
Well I didn't get a chance to test out 1.2 before it got released.
But when I did get a chance to test it out, I found out the compiler
created a bug when it compiled the program. Don't know how it did it, but
I went and updated the compiler, and have fully tested this version. Also
on here, the About menu option has a major change in it. Take a look and
tell me what you think. Also from here on out, TrapStat has now went
shareware. If you are interested in registering it, please send $5 to the
address listed below. This will insure that you recieve all the Lastest
version releases no less than a two days after it's released. Also any
input is still appreciated, I NEED IDEA'S!!! So please feel free to
contact me.
Things can always go wrong (Version 1.4):
Well come to find out that version 1.3 was also buggy. I had released
version 1.3 after doing some testing on smaller files. It worked fine on
the smaller files, but when coming up against the larger one's it would
come up with an error. Took me the longest time to figure out what was
going wrong. I finally did it and here is the finished bugfixed released
version of TrapStat. But just remember it is Unregistered. If you are
interested in getting the registered version look under the stuff under
version 1.3. Just to let you know, the unregistered version of TrapStat is
a bit slower than the registered version. So there is a difference in
speed. Anyway I know for a fact that TrapStat is completely bugfixed. So
there wont be any bugs in it. And if there are you are doing something
very wierd! <grin> Anyway, hope that you like the new version of TrapStat.
Thanks for all the input!
The Gadgets :
The top 3 string gadgets are the one's that display the stuff that is
in the config files. The first gadget "Your Node # :" is where you put the
Fidonet Node # of your system. The second gadget "Log File Name :" is
where you put the Trapdoor log file name and the full path for that log
file. The third one "Report Path :" is where you put just the path name
for the report file. The report will automatically be named "TrapReport".
The Config File :
Well like I just said the config file is just a simple text file.
That is the first thing that the program looks for when it starts. If it
can't find it the program will bring up the main screen and you can type
the information that you need into the area provided. To start the program
just click on the OK gadget. That will start the program. If at anytime
while the program is running you decide that you want to cancel the
operation you can click on the cancel gadget and it will end the program,
But it will write the report file for the data that it has already gotten
from the Trapdoor report. (This was another idea from Roger). In the
space provided for Log File name, you have to put the full path and
filename right there. And the report path is just the path name.
Anyway, like I mentioned earlier, if there is anything that you would
like to TrapStat do, please feel free to get ahold of me and let me know
what you would like to see. And if you want to send me some money, your
more than welcome to do so! ;). I can be reached at the following

Unfortunatly, I run an unpublished node, and so all my netmail should be
sent through The Hotel California (FidoNet 1:382/105). Or you can just
call my board and logon! Hopefully, I will have the unpublished node
thingy fixed sometime soon. Thanks for your support.
